PERSONALITY: He really lives up to the name of "Sun" by being a bright and warm person. It's fast to notice that he is a fun-loving and carefree - the type to light up the sour mood around him with his silly antics and jokes and he's rarely the one bringing the mood down. It's hard not to smile around him, even if sometimes he does annoy rather than entertain. Sun is also very laid-back and casual in both conversation and clothing. True to his nature, he greatly dislikes wearing any kind of formal attires, only agreeing to it when situation calls it (like getting to dance with Blake at a ball).
Sun has plenty of confidence in himself. Everything he does has certainty in it. And he's not even modest about his abilities but instead advertises his abilities as they are - sometimes a bit exaggerating just to keep the mood light and have others groan at him either intentionally or not (much to his confusion if not intentional). He does know when he's way out of his league or against too many people and knows to call for help (even in a very annoyed manner if the other party is fooling around).
Despite seeming like he's always outspoken and loud, he is also very patient and kind. He waited for days for Blake to open up to him and listened to her story calmly. He also always goes out of his way to help others, whether they ask him to or not. Other than being a great listener he's also good at giving advice and talking people out of the depressing spirals they've gotten themselves into. Sometimes it requires a little yelling and force, but he's stubborn when he wants to be - and if it's for the best for the one he's talking to.
His timing on comedy isn't always the most ideal one. Whenever he fails at reading the mood or just says something without thinking he becomes very, very awkward and trying (badly) to change the subject. This happened several times when he was at Blake's parents' house, which left Blake's dad often very unamused and her mother the opposite. What he messes up in social situations he often makes up in action to prove himself to be a good and trustworthy friend.
When friends he cherished threw themselves in danger, he was very opposed to it and tried to change their minds. He really dislikes anyone he deeply cares about putting themselves in danger. In a way, he's a hypocrite because he throws himself into danger for them with little regard of what they might think. When called out about it (after getting seriously injured) he said that next time he'd be solely fighting for himself to get revenge. But he's still there to help his friends - and even those he doesn't know too well because that's what a huntsman does.
Sun has very little regard to the law and he gives officials a hard time. His first appearance in the series is when he's running away from a crew of a ship he stowed away in. Continuing on he also tossed a banana peel at a cop's face, ran away from that too, stole some apples and got involved in a not-so-official investigation into stolen Dust. Throughout the series he's shown being less of a delinquent, he still has that spark somewhere - though the things he does have turned more into silly mischief than actual law breaking.
Despite his sometimes law-breaking attitude he very strongly dislikes people who use any means necessary to gain what they want (such as the White Fang). He is not afraid to show his dislike or fight back when the situation calls for it. In fact, he's volunteering himself to fight against crooks even on very unofficial occasions.
Sun can be serious and devoted to a cause. When Blake starts working against White Fang, he follows her lead. If he believes in something and thinks it's the right thing to, he will definitely go out of his way to help with it. He never left Blake's side as he started rallying the other Faunus to help Haven, no matter how rough of depressing it got. His passion for the cause makes Blake believe that Sun is the embodiment of the word "earnest".
